white spot

Hi lastweek i noticed that some of my fish had white spots on them so i looked this site up and raised my temp every couple of hours. but been new to all of this and i didn't want to lose my fish as we had only had them a week when we noticed the spots i went and bought some white spot control by King British. i did what it said for me todo added the meds every other day 2 days after the first lot of meds my fish starting picking up and swimming about and looked more active. it looks like all the white spot has gone now after a week so can i start turning the temp down now or not? also one of my fishes tail and fin is starting to dissapear is this fin rot and do i now buy some fin rot treatment to clear it? thank you all in advance susan

Re: white spot

What kind of fish are in the tank? The fins disappearing could be fin nipping from other fish.

Re: white spot

I forgot to say the one with the finrot is the one that had the most whitespot but all that is cleared up now. since we noticed the whitespot i also notice that this one fish which is (head and tail light) also stays on his own at the side of the tank. thanks

Re: white spot

I would say the barbs might be nipping at the other fishes fins. I heard from people that they been known to do that.

Re: white spot/tail rot?

I went to feed my fish Friday morning and was shocked to see my Gourami floating on the top, covered with white, salty dots. When I took a look at the other fish, all of my Tetras are absolutely covered. I immediately started Quick Cure and removed the filter media. I also raised the temp to around 86. Now, I have also noticed with them they have rotting fins. I dont remember reading about this on any sites other than it occurring with marine fish. Any suggestions? I had thought about doing a 50% water change and using Coppersafe and marycin TC for the ich and fin rot. I looked up velvet as at first I thought it might be that but it is definitely a white dusting everywhere on the fish. I would appreciate any help! I did cut the doasge in half as the meds call for half the amount used with tetras.

Re: white spot

Similar to what I have got happening in my tank and posted in this thread also.

I have taken the same course of action i.e. up temp to 25 degrees celsius and used "White Spot Remover" similar to what you have used I am guessing.

2 days and I will see what the results are...

Have you turned the temp back down to its original temp ?

Re: white spot

What colour was your white spot medication ? Active ingredient in mine is malachite green and formaldehyde and the solution is BLUE ! I hope it does not stain the tank / plants etc.

EDIT

After 2 days still no change in my poor clown loachs ... how long before the white spots disappear .. I understand that this is only the first stage of the disease, after which the spots drop off and do to the bottom of the tank and the medication take their effect !!

Re: white spot

Hi les

mine is king british white spot control. active ingredients is ( malachite green. acriflavine, quinine sulphate.) it also says to use half the normal dose when adding to aquariums containing sharks, loaches, and other sensitive or light scaled fish. it also says Care should be taken when diagnosing white spot, especially in clown loach fish which can show spots resulting from poor water quality. This may not be white spot.

sorry to go on.

i hope you see some improvement soon in your fish. after the second dose of meds my fish starting picking up and looking a lot better even thou the spots where still there. have u raised the temp. cause this helps them cycle quicker. good luck sue

Re: white spot

Hi Sue,

The spots are 90 % gone from one patient and still 50% on the 2 other patients. The second dose has gone in and we'll see how we go.

Thanks !

ps. what can it be if it is not white spot (though I am 95% sure it is Ich)
