Re: POPEYES! HELP!

Sorry I missed your posts I've been at work all week-end. could you tell me a little about the tank size, water test readings(ammonia, Nitrites, nitrates).
The first thing to do if you notice a problem with one of your fish is to do a water change. You may have to do them more often for a couple of days until it feels better.

Re: POPEYES! HELP!

it's okay butterfly, it's just kinda useless to go on a fish site and not be answered. *sigh* anyway I did a 20-30% water change, put in a new filter bag and bumped the temp up a degree. well, I didn't bump it up it just went up and his popeyes has gone down. ^.^ I'm really happy, his eyes are almost back to normal but they slightly bulge out. Will this be permanant or will it last for a bit longer?

Re: POPEYES! HELP!

Keep up the water changes and his eyes should be just fine. Glad he's better. When you say changed the filter bag did you put a completely new one in or rinse the old one. The reason I ask is because you can rinse the old one in used tank water and preserve the beneficial bacteria in the filter bag. If you are using a completely new bag watch for a mini-cycle and do water changes to keep the ammonia in control.

Re: POPEYES! HELP!

GAH!!! I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW!!! I changed it because it also has bad bacteria because of the popeye outbreak. Now the reason why I'm mad is that my fave molly has popeye and the other catfish's eyes are starting to bulge. GAH!!! I'm prepareing for another water change and am going to just keep watching them. Blearg, sometimes things like that just upset me. Sorry, I'll rinse the filter bag when the popeyes are gone ^.^

Re: POPEYES! HELP!

The filter media doesn't have anymore popeye germs in it than the water does so theres no need to throw it away. Keep the water extremely clean. Here is a disease chart, check it out. If the clean water doesn't solve the problem you may need to use medications.

I'm going to move this to the disease section so it will get more attention.

Re: POPEYES! HELP!

Hi there I want to add that I suspect my dwarf gourami has the same thing. I'm going to do a water change right now...I don' know how pronounced it is but his left eye looks odd, slightly bigger than the other.

I'll keep checking here and hopefully your problem will go away as well.
