My betta caught a sudden case of finrot--it was really my fault, carelessly when I was vacuuming his tank out I had removed the top and so I'd also put the heater in a bowl of water and unplugged it. I forgot to plug it back in and then went away for more than a day. The tank had cooled considerably and I was shocked to see the condition of his tail, so I did arrest the rot but now it seems to be taking him forever to heal. I have done good water changes and cleanings, the temperature and water stats are good.

There are medications out there marketed specifically for bettas. I think the very clean water is probably the best thing you can do right now. You can try the Maracyn I, Maracyn II combination, or the melafix and pimafix combination to speed up the process.l
