To euthanize or not to euthanize

So I have a female guppy and a angel fish in the hospital tank both with camallanus. For those who don't know camallanus is an internal parasite that shows itself by sticking out of the fishes bum area. I have been trying as hard as I can to fight it off but it just wont go away. So my question is, it has been since february that I have been trying to get rid of this thing so do I euthanize the fish or do I keep them alive?...If I keep them alive they will have to finish their remaining days in the hospital tank which is depressing..not just that but I think the camallanus has them making more waste than usual..I am doing water changes everyday and the small 10 gallon tank looks disgusting..any opinions would be helpfull

do the fish have other severe symptoms? are they listless/lethargic, etc? i think i'd base my decision on their behavior... if they seem to have given up, then i'd be more inclined to. otherwise, i would definitely give treatment another go.

i agree-- if they look miserable i would end it for them, as hard as that would be.

Hi!

I only euthanize if the fish doesn't run away from the net. Then, if it doesn't I know it has a chance.

How are you treating your fish?

I have come across two sites that give a treatment that should take care of your infestation. Problem is that this parasite is highly "contagious", so if you have it in some fish, you may need to treat all your tanks...

Hopefully you will get some good ideas from the following.

www.inkmkr.com/Fish/CamellanusTreatment.pdf and

www.loaches.com/Members/shari2/levamisole-hydrochloride-1

Good Luck.
