Hi simonone
Welcome to Fishlore.

It will help to let us know what size tank he is in and how old is the tank?
Do you test your water? If so, what are your readings?
When was the last time you changed the water?

The red line under his gills...are his gills red?

Sorry for all the questions, the answers will help us figure out what might be wrong with him.

Where did you get your goldfish, and how long have you had him?
Is your tank completely cycled, and what are its levels?
Have you introduced any new fish that could have had a disease?

Just a couple more questions. For us to be able to help, we need to be able to figure out what could be causing it and what it is. I hope your fish is all right!

I forgot to mention, I would go ahead and do a water change, make sure to use a dechlorinator, it can't hurt.

My tank has been set u[ since January, the fish is probably 3 yrs old. The tank has cycled, I only used fresh well water and water conditioner (for fish) to remove any hard water minerals. Until now all was well. It's a 44 gal tank. There are 3 other goldfish in with this one and they seem fine. No, his gills are NOT red, just a small red spot under the mouth, so I call that the chin. Hope this answers your questions!

Hi,
Yes, thank you, it give us a better of idea of your goldies living conditions.

I found this:
"Costia - Costia is a parasite that nearly always causes little red hemorrhages, especially under the chin, but also along the back. If the red dots are under the scales, it is probably a bacterial infection."

I hope it helps. Good luck
