I would start with Maracyn-Two....it is recommended for popeye, and will work even if the fish won't eat.
Another product that is suggested for popeye is Maracyn-Plus. It "sticks" to the fish, and is suppose to keep the fish from re-infecting....I think it is a little more powerful, and is not suppose to be used with any other medications......where the Maracyn-Two, can be used with an anitfungal solution if you need to.
It is almost impossible for the hobbiest to know if they should treat for gram-negative, or gram positive bacterial infections, that is why it is suggested to use one medicine for the full dosage recommended. If at that time it has not responded, use the other....Good Luck

We just successfully treated one of our Bettas for Popeye using Maracyn-Two. They affect different types of bacteria (gram-positive and gram negative).

Hi susitna-flower & COBettaCouple,
Thanks for the replies.
From the pic and video, does my fish has pop eye?
Bad news: Maracyn & Maracyn-two are not available in Australia.
Pet Shop carries:
1) Aristapet Multicure
2) Aquacure
3) Pimafix
4) Melafix
Which one to use?
Thanks.

Hi, Zeebo,
I feel so sorry for your fish, he looks really stressed....that is why his color has changed.
Methylen Blue if more for fungal infections, and for treating nitrite poisening....I've never personally used it, but know Dino and CWC do, so they could give better advice there.
I do know Melafix is used in bacterial infections, and it MIGHT be a help, but can't say for sure, on popeye. I would say it wouldn't hurt.
Hopefully you are doing lots of water changes. Is this fish still eating?
I'm not familiar with the other medications you have listed. Other medications indicated for popeye though are Tetracycline, and Trisulfa. Both are available here in the US in pet stores. These will likely disrupt your nitrogen cycle.
Any time you use medications with your fish, use the full recommended dosing, and be sure afterward to use carbon in your filter for 24 hours, to remove the medication, and keep an eye on your nitrogen cycle. Hope this helps....

Hi susitna-flower,
Thanks for getting bcak to me.
Yes I have been testing my water and doing my water changes regularly.
Its driving me nuts that fishes still die even though the water is in good condition.
He is not eating. Not even worms that he loves.
I have isolated him. I treat him in the isolation tank with methylene blue for now coz I don't know what other medicine to use.
I will head down to the various Pet Store to see what I can find. They don't carry the products you have mentioned.
Thank you.

Aristopet does make a triple sulfa product. I'm not sure if he has popeye or not from the video, he sounds as if he's got internal parasites. Look for a product with praziquantel or metronidazole in it, but avoid products with malachite green or victoria green in them.

Hi COBettaCouple & susitna-flower,
Thank You reading this thread again and providing your kind assistance.
I managed to find Tetracycline by Aquacure. I have treated my fish in an isolation tank so it does not disrupt the cycle in the main tank.
The salesperson at the Pet Shop tried to sell me a form of broad spectrum multi cure. I read the label on the bottle and it says the main component is Methylene Blue. I already have Methylene Blue. Fortunately I have taken notes from this thread and managed to find Tetracycline for my fish.
I will take note of the praziquantel, metronidazole, malachite green & victoria green for future reference.
Thank you once again. I hope to bring yoy good news in a week or so.

My fish died.
I am so frustrated.
The harder I try the worse it gets.
What else can I do?!
I already ensure the water quality is good.

I'm sorry you lost him. It's tough when we try and still lose them, it just sometimes goes that way even though we do our best. Sometimes it turns out good though so we keep trying.
