Mold?

Recently I noticed my Rainbow Platy with white fuzzy stuff around her anal fin. I thought it was the poop/waste that was getting moldy. I caught her with a net and a chunk with mold came off. The very next day, same thing - more moldy chuck by the exit.

Is this a problem I should be concerned? Is this even a typical problem? If it's just the waste getting moldy, I guess I'm not too concerned. I am concerned if she's coming down with some disease, making her unable to poop properly or mold getting inside her body. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I REALLY hope some chimes in on this one my dear...I'm not sure what the answer is...but I live in Florida...and the word "mold" scares me !!!

It sounds like she may have an ulcer - melafix would be the treatment for it.

Sounds more like fungus, but why it is, where it is, is the question....as CBC said Melafix should help. Has she been flashing or does she have any stringy poo? There may be a parasitic problem as well.

She has no other signs of illness, no flashing, stringy poop, or fungus on the body or fins. However, she doesn't seem to be swimming as actively as she used to. How does a fish get ulcer? Is it the food that I'm feeding? I have had 2 recent deaths (about 1-2 weeks ago). The deceased didn't have any mold or fungus on the bodies. They just kind of slowed down and died. I'll consider medicating her.
