parasites

ok, so with lethargy, clamped fins, whitish poo, and 2 deaths... i decided to treat for parasites... i've done the second treatment after a 25% waterchange (i'm using the jungleland parasite clear, fizzy tabs - which the neons don't seem thrilled about).

my questions are, do i seriously need to do a 3rd treatment after another 48 hours? (the box just says you 'can' repeat the treatment) i hate to medicate in the first place, unless i really think it's necessary... but i want to make sure they're gone too. how can i tell?

my angels are all very young still, and one of them had a very thin, white, threadlike poo twice as long as it's body... most of the others are still having some whitish poos too. when that symptom is gone, will it be safe to assume the parasites are gone? they've had quite bloated little bellies too, shouldn't that go away to a certain degree as well?

It might take awhile for the dying parasites to clear from their systems.

Personally, I would avoid the third treatment. Like you, I don't like medicating if I can avoid it.

However, there is the risk, if any parasites survive, of breeding parasites that are resistant to that particular med.

I used jungle internal parasite powder and I did 2 treatments the 1st time I used it and they came back. I followed the label and used 3 treatments the next go round and that worked. So I would say go for the 3rd treatment.

they really seem to hate the medicine... their behavior totally changes, even when i add it diluted and slowly... i'm worried.

Mine HATED it too. Just keep a VERY close eye on them. My fish's behavior changed too. You know how your fish are.
I am pulling for your fish.

I usually do 3 treatments when I use the Parasite Clear tabs, if any symptoms are still showing when it's time for the 3rd dose.

well, i gave the 3rd dose today, and all but one seem to be doing fine. the one though has sunken in sides and is not eating. he stays in the corner near the top and rarely leaves. i'm not sure what to do about him at this point, i've offered various foods to try and tempt him, but in the last several days he took one small flake and spit some of it back out.

came home today to the sickly one still alive but stuck to the filter, miserable... even when released he couldn't swim, at all. decided to euthanize.

Take heart, if you HADN'T medicated it may have been more than one....

Still sorry, and hope the rest are right as rain...

Sounds like he was too far gone to respond to the meds, but you did all that could be done for him.

This sounds like what my Platy has. Bloated and white/clear stringy poo. Should I use Parasite Clear Tabs in the whole tank ? (10 gal) In other words is it contageous ?

It can be and we usually treat a tank for it when it starts to show up.

how long do i leave the meds in there? i'd wanted to do a waterchange today, is it too soon? when should i put some carbon in to remove it completely, or should i? will diluting it with water changes be enough?

Did you go ahead and put the 3rd dose in? I would do the water change, put the 3rd dose in if you didn't--- or do the water change and put just a filter in. I would wait for the charcoal until the next water change. JMO others will correct me if I'm wrong. Hope all goes better.

A couple days after the 3rd dose, you could do another water change and run carbon if you'd like but we usually just do a water change after parasite clear.
