Sick angel
I have a angelfish that is not well, it is listless/lethargic, not eating, breathing heavy, white poo. What is going on?

Hello Heidi
Sorry to hear your Angel is not doing well. Can you tell us when was your last water change? Any water test results available? How long you have had it in your tank? We will do what we can to try and help you out.

Hi Kate,
I did a water change yesterday, 25%. ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 20, ph 8.0
I have had that angel in the tank for about 3 weeks, it was doing well, then just the other day, the angel stopped eating. I did have a nitrite problem, but it is ok now. But the fish got sick after I fixed the nitrites. Could this be a delayed reaction? The other fish in the tank are fine.
Any help would be appreciated, Thank you

Hi Heidi
thanks.. Its possible that it is a delayed reaction to the higher NitrItes. But the 'white poo" can be a sign of internal parasites. I dont want to jump to conclusions on this one, as my fish have never had that and I have no experience with meds for it. But I do know that the symptoms are not good and that white poo can be an indicator of something wrong.
I hope that CoBettaCouple will read this, as he is pretty good about symptoms and medications needed as is others here in the forum.
Im going to do some research on this now...

Do you see any white strings around his gill plates? I think kate has it & it's internal parasites. I'd get him on parasite clear after doing a 25% water change.. and if you can get vita-chem to add to the tank, that would help.

You might also want to feed him just thawed, frozen bloodworms when he starts eating. The protein will be good for him. You could try soaking them in minced garlic juice to increase your angel's desire to eat.
Oh.. I'm glad you got that cleared out at last, Kate.

i keep both frozen bloodworms and brineshrimp for them. a varied diet is good for them... so they also get flakes, cucumber, zucchini, algae wafers, even tubifex worms... but not all at once, and not much at once... flakes are their 'staple' tho.

We're sorry you lost your angel. Unfortunately, they can often go pretty quick when they get sick.
