Sick Danio

My danio is sick, I think he may have ick but I'm not certain. His tail fin and belly fin are clamped and back by his tail there is a red area that looks inflamed with some sort of whitish stuff too I think. Ill post a picture, I couldn't really get a good one so I hope this is good enough. Currently he is in a quarantine tank away from the rest of my fish but should i worry about them they seem fine as of right now.

Welcome to Fishlore. What are you using for water conditioner? Your tank looks like it's not cycled and is overstocked. nitrite levels that high are very toxic, even to hardy fish like Danios.

I would recommend using Prime for your water conditioner and changing 50% of the water daily. For your sick Danio, Melafix could help along with treating his water with Prime and doing 50% water changes daily on his tank.

I've been using AquaSafe by Tetra for water conditioner and doing daily water changes, ya I know its not cycled yet. Would the high nitrate levels cause a red sore near his tail though with the whitish stuff? Oh and yes I do plan to get a larger tank once I have the funds and once i figure out how to it up so that I wont get told to take it down since my school only allows 5g max and I'd prefer a 10 to 16g or so tank. The 2.5g was a christmas gift.
