Gold fish in trouble

Hi there,
I have 6 good fish, 4 mollys, 2 platy and a sucker fish in 35 gallon tank. Few weeks back one of my gold fish developed dark brown patch in the lower abdomen portion soon in a week it died. Now another gold fish has developed red patch near the fine and also in the tail, and in the tail a string like thing has developed in the patch (protrudes) . What might me the problem. Kindly provide me suggestions to save my fish. Thanks in advance.

Rgds
Vijay

Could be parasites.

You do know that goldfish being temperate water fish and mollies, platies, and most plecostomus being tropical fish that they should NOT be kept in the same tank, correct? (Their temperature needs are different, and some people will disagree, but just because their high and low extremes meet does not mean they would thrive in that condition.)

I would move the goldfish to another tank, or move the other fish to another tank, whichever. And get medications for the goldfish.

(If that sucker-mouth is a common plecostomus it is going to need a 75g tank or larger by the time it is full adult size. Those 5 goldfish you have left really need atleast a 75g tank or larger within a year or year and a half of age.)

Good luck.
