please help my tetras!!

Ok so about a week ago we noticed that the tetras had some white dots on them, so i started freaking out thinking that we have ick. Well I did a bunch of research on it to find out how to get rid of it and started watching all of the other fish in my tank as well to see if they have it. None of the other fish are showing any white spots or anything and they are not itching themselves. We raised the temp up to about 82 degrees to help get rid of it. Now my question is could it be anything else besides ick? The tetra are not itching and they are not getting sluggish or not eating. Please help me help my fish!!

Welcome to Fishlore.

You might want to raise it to 83-84F, but 2 weeks of keeping it at that temp combined with cleaning the tank weekly and changing 25% of the water every 2-3 days should do the trick. It does sound like ich.

Meds aren't needed, but if you want to add a product called Ich-Attack, it's a herbal product that won't put stress on the fish and could help them feel better while you treat them. It's just optional though.

Ok so this is something that can go away with cleaning the tank and changing the water out then? I had bought some Super Ick Cure and I was afraid to use it because of the bristle nose and of it dying the tank.

Yea, ich doesn't need meds and that med does more harm than anything. I believe it has malachite green in it, which is something I'd NEVER put in a tank.

Oh ok, now I'm glad I listened to everyone about the meds. I guess that I will just need to take that back my LFS. Thank you so much. You're a big help.

I'ev had a few small cases of ick but my fish never ended up acting differantly - it was just the spots. Thankfully raising the temp and water changes took care of it each time but I've been looking into Ick-Attack just in case.
