fungus med and catfish

A few weeks ago my mom bought me some fish and put them in the tank without me knowing. 2 of the platies she bought looked like they had ick so I raised the temp. to 82. The tank has been at 82 for 2 weeks and the 'ick' spots havent moved, so now Im thinking fungus so i have my fungus med (the active ingredient is Malachite green) and it says that for a tank with a scaleless fish to use half the recommeded dosage. In the tank with the platies is a little catfish with horizontal white and black stripes ( also bought by mother so I dont know what it is) and it lookes like it dosent have scales so basically

Should I only use 1/2 strength because of the catfish?

Will this still be enough to kill the fungus?

if u could move the catfish to your 30 or 10 gallon tanks, that would be the best way to handle it. im not exactly sure about the effects of malachite green on scaleless fish, so i would wait until a more experienced member posts!

good luck

I'd move the catfish and use the recommended dosage.

I have a catfish that moves to a hospital tank when i treat the entire tank for meds that aren't recommended for scaleless fish.

Is there somewhere else you could put the fish?

You could go with less agressive treatments. Try Rid Fungus, it is an organic way of treating fungus and it works! The catfish you are describing sounds like a Cory. I have cory's and platies and have used this method without negative side effects.

I moved the platies into a 2.5 gal with the med because I needed to go and the one was regressing. Will I need to treat the whole tank as well? The platies look better already but I read the fine print on the med and it also said fry and all my zebra danios are 1/2 inch fry so that is about 8 fish who shouldnt use the med.

The treatment for ich is to raise the temp a little further.. 83-84F. If you use meds, the only one that I'd recommend is the Ich-Attack med, since it's herbal and organic and safe for all of your fish.

Malachite green is harsh and very harmful to the fish and I'd definitely not use that.

Rid-Fungus is similiar to Ich-Attack and I'd also recommend that if you're treating for fungus.
