Fish rot???

Well my one mollie had popeye( no idea how to spell) and i was treating her for it but now i woke up to a deformed head. Its like it's caved in. Any ideas on what it is? I dont think i can save her (she is still alive) But I do not wan't the others to get what she has. I was medicating the tank with melifix and premafix but its not helping and now my big male has a spot on him. pleas help me. What should I medicate?

Here are some pictures....

Sounds like Hole in the head disease....One good site to check out is http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fres...n/diseases.htm

There is a disease chart, which gives medications to use, but you can also just click on individual diseases and it gives symptoms and causes.

It sounds like some of your problems could be caused by water chemistry problems. Do you test your water?

It also sounds (by reading on this site) like you may need to use vits-chem or some other product to give your fish more vitimans.

Hope this helps.

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...&N=2004+113017 - You might find this locally or have to order it, but I'd treat the tank with this. It sounds like the disease has spread to at least 1 other fish and since symptoms don't always show right away, the best thing would be to treat them all and knock that disease out of the tank.

What are the current ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings? How many fish are in there and how big is the tank? Are any other fish showing any changes in appetite or appearance? How often and how much % do you do partial water changes?

I take it, this is in the 20g. It's overstocked with the common pleco and with the amount of waste that plecos produce, water chemistry would be a problem and possibly the cause of the popeye & HIH disease.

I don't know if this helps to find the cause. But I've heard not changing the carbon in your filter enough can cause hole in the head As soon as I heard that I removed the carbon in my filter and I don't think I'll be using it again. Good luck with your molly

Not changing the carbon will cause the carbon to release the toxins it captured all at once and we just run it when we need to remove meds from the water.
