Questions on flicking/scratching?

I guess i just want to know others opinions on this. I've treated my tank once with sterazin which seemed to do the trick although i did see some flicking/scratching after it wasn't much just put it down as an itch. Since then fish have been added and ive started to notice it in them.So either it was never totally destroyed or it arrived with others in any case i have to treat them.Would you use sterazin again or maybe try Myxazin for bacterial infections.
And also the tank 30 or so fish in it with 6 definetly flicking/scratching regular so i would think the whole tank of fish has to be treated to ensure its total destruction.
Is the above thought wrong maybe causing unessesary stress to healthy fish?
And also is fish scratching really a definate sign of parasite/infection?
All thoughts would be most welcome, cheers

Do you think it's ick or velvet?

Scratching mostly points to parasites but can indicate fungal infections sometimes.

Do your fish that are scratching have white or yellowish spots? or any other visible symptoms? Generally, parasites need to be treated with an increase in water temperature with some parasites needing meds to help eradicate them.

High Nitrates can also cause fish to flick/flash. When you notice a problem in your tank do a significant water change and see how they act.

Sometimes the parasites can be in the gills where they are not visable on the fish. I agree with the others, water changes are always a good place to start, along with raising the temp to between 82 & 84, if it is ick this will help the whole tank without stressing them with meds. THEN if you can identify some other symptom, you will know better what to treat it with.

6 fish flashing is not a good sign. I think you should really look them over closly, and if you can test your water, let us know what the readings are.

Thanks for all replys its been a few days since been on fishlore its been a hectic christmas up to now!
Ive never seen any white spots in any of the fish so i dont think its ick.
From what ive read on velvet i dont think its that.I decided to treat the whole tank again im half way through that treatment there seems to be less flicking but one of the female endlers is still scratching as much as ever(she was the worst). Is sterazin strong enough? do i need a different stronger med? I may treat with myxazin to rid any possible bacterial infections, good idea? Thanks for thought again and wishing all a happy new year

Oh and water is perfect all at zero ph is 7.3

All at zero isn't actually good --you should have some level of nitrates in there if the tank is cycled. Below 20ppm is good, below 10ppm is ideal.

Hi jsalemi, ive wondered about this before as i have a planted tank n recently the versanali(whatever they call it,the grass)started growing deformed i wondered if it was a lack of nitrates.I have a juwel rio 240 tank if you are familiar all in built filter media and one of the sponges is a nitrate remover,i guess i could take it out n see what happens.

Yea, take out the nitrate remover for now and see what your levels end up at.

Well i think i've finally sorted it out no flicking or scratching of the sorts for 3 days now.
Gunnie mentioned velvet and was pretty sure it wasnt there wasn't any yellow spots or yellow dusty coverings but on fish which are whitish silver ie: danios, dwarf loaches female endlers they did have a yellowish look about them. After looking closely at mine for ages and compairing them with photos of the same fish mine had a definate yellower look about them even if only slight and not all of them i might add. So i started with a treatment of protazin which is for: Ich,Velvet,Fungus and a few others,Im 2 days into a 3 day gap before final dose and all seems well(hope i ain't spoke too soon).
It looks like it was velvet so if anything to be learnt from this i would compare your fish to healthy ones not just the ill ones because the pics you see are probs extereme cases mine didn't look like the pics i saw but they didn't look as healthy as the healthy pics of fish. This may seem like the obvious thing to do but im not a total beginner no more and it took time to get it right, time some fish might not have so i hope this might help someone oneday maybe
