Ok, well the tank is very overstocked (I think even if it were 150g it would be overstocked) and not cycled so water chemistry would be my first thought as to the problem, especially with 2 common plecos in there. You could be looking at a territorial issue too with that many cichlids in an overstocked tank. If any of the pairs are breeding, they'd be very protective and could be forcing the others out of their territory. Quote:

| i dont really have a problem with them fighting.... and when with cichlids ether you have the tank under stocked or over stocked it reduces aggresstion due to more fish to fight then they just mello out... i found this out the hard way not doing it. i keep the tank clean as i can also its been set up for almost 9 months so i am pretty sure it should be cycled. |

| Tanks that have been setup a while can still get the cycle broken or go into mini-cycles.
They might not be fighting, but you mention a number of them hiding and the reason could be not enough room in there. As soon as the Julies give us a breeding pair, we'll have 3 cichlids in a 30g tank, 4 if we find a female Angel the same size/age as our male. |

| Is there a possibility that the fish might be holding? The first time one of mine was, I didn't realize it, just noticed that she hid a lot more, and wasn't acting right. Are there any other symptoms that the fish seem to be showing?
I would highly recommend getting another filter. I have 2 of the large HOB filters on my 55 tank. The filters keep the water sparkling clean, and they also provide a lot of water movement, which the african cichlids like. |

| The fish in the picture looks like a red zebra.
Is it just the picture, or are the gills red? |
