Salt bath for Flashing?

My electric ylw ciclid has been flashing since yesterday afternoon. I turned up the temp to 80deg. Put him in the 10g QT. I've never had flashers before, I don't see any red/swollen gills, but I've read posts here that mention acting quick with this. Please HELP

Does he have any of these symptoms: sluggishness, skin lesions, color loss, reddened fins, drooping fins, fin damage?

I think gill flukes or skin flukes might be the culprit. This med is a good one, although not cheap: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...60&pcatid=4760

You could also try anti-parasite meds like parasite clear tabs.

I'm not totally 100% sure it's flukes so hopefully another member will confirm/deny if it is. Do you have a pic you could post?

He has a small spot near one gill, it's a little bit red. I will try to get some pics. He's very active, no clamped or damaged fins, eating well.

Also check your water parameters, high Nitrates will cause them to flash also.

Sunny is doing okay, I watched him all day yesterday, no flashing at all! I have been keeping the temp at 80d. I really got some good looks at him, I can't see anything wrong. Gave him some shrimp pellets and he got happy/excited. Thanks for the follow up everyone, wish our fish could talk! Maybe he just was silly in a new tank with new things to explore. I didn't think he would like being in a 10g tank, since he is almost 3" long. Still trying to find him a good home.

You do know that most times when an african cichlid "flashes" is aggression more than illness. Ours do it when they get cranky with other fish.

I didn't know that, bet that's whats going on. If I weren't trying to find a home for him, he'd probably do okay with a tank mate (like a girly). He's so big it would be hard to find somebody in his size range.
