to treat or not to treat

In my 10 gallon tank, a small tiger barb got a case of ICH last week. I was gone and didn't catch it until he had numerous white spots on him. I have raised my temp to 82, put in a half dose of ich guard, and performed 3-25% water changes. Unfortunately, my tiger died, however, no other fish in the tank show any signs of problems(strange swimming, lack of appetite, white spots, etc.)

Do you treat the tank for ich, or the fish? In other words, do I continue on with the treatments, and if so, for how long? Or did one fish just contact the disease and the others ...

Advice for the beginner would be appreciated.

I just reread my post, and if it is not clear, the 3 water changes were over a 3 day period. Sorry if there was any confusion.

I can't advise you about the specific medication your using since I've never used it. What I have done in the past when I had ICH was raise the temperature to 82-84F for 14 days and do frequent 25% water changes. This works very well.
The raised temps make the ICH go through it's life stages faster and since warmer water holds less oxygen the water changes add oxygen back in as well as remove dead ICH cysts. Here is an excellent article on ICH. http://www.fishlore.com/aquariummaga...sh-disease.htm
Hope that helps.

it's likely that the ich is in the tank and i would treat the tank with warmer water, frequent water changes and substrata cleaning. We use Ich-Attack if we use anything when treating ich, since it's not a harsh med and it won't put stress on the other fish.

82F kills the free swimming lifestage of the parasite.
By keeping your tanks at that temperature, you remove the risk of further attacks.
