New tank owner...weird white patches on fish???

Hi! I am the new owner of a 55 gallon freshwater tank with my first set of rainbows (6 in all). My red male and now the red female are both looking odd to me. The male looks like he has white patches on his body...alomost like when saltwater dries and leaves behind that white powder. It is faint and doesn't appear to be a lesion or slimy. Any thoughts

welcome to fishlore.. does it look like it might be a little fuzzy? (if so, then i'd think fungus and treat them with Rid-Fungus) would you be able to post any pics?

It's either velvet or a fungus. Do you have a pix?
