I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 neon tetras and 1 cardinal tetra. The tank has been set up for about a month. After it was set up for about two days I bought six cardinal tetras and put them in the tank. Well of course I didn't research anything until things started to go bad. Thats when I found this site adn learned about the CYCLE. I bought a
test kit and performed water changes daily and tested the water daily unfortunatly only one cardinal survived my stupid mistakes. The water was great after about a month
0
ammonia, 0
nitrite, .5
nitrate. So I went to the
LPS and wanted to buy more cardinals because they do better in schools of six. They didn't have any and wouldn't get them for a couple weeks. So they recommeded neons since they are a close relative. I purchase 3 of them thinking I would get some cardinals later on. One neon died the next day but the other 2 seem fine. All the fish eat well and swim around happily. Then I noticed that one neon has gotten white spots on his tail fins. I looked here and found that it sounds like
ICH. I slowly increase water temp to 84 degrees and changed about 10 to 20 percent daily but had no luck. So I bought Jungle Ick Guard and followed the instructions. After one day the ICH seemed to be gone. On the second day I changed about 30 percent of the water and put in a new charcol filter. The next day I noticed that the same fish got the spots back. UGH! Did I do something wrong? It is ick isn't it? Do I need to use some kind of Fungel treatment? Any help for this newbie fish keeper is appreciated. Thanks.
