um..finrot? or something more sinsister?

So..about 2-3 weeks ago i got a 29 gallon tank. I had 2 balas, a tetra, and a pleco..i put them in the new tank and they seem to be doing fine. I also have 5 minnows in a separate tank that i caught over the summer from a local creek..and i put 2 of them in the new tank before i put all my fish in just to see what happened..

i left them in there and i think they might of started all my problems..it seemed like my balas fins were getting nipped at...so i took the 2 minnows out..i noticed red streaks in the balas fins and ive read that it could of been ulcers? i dont really know but they died. the pleco died..and he had holes in his fins too. the tetra had white specs all over him so i thouht i had ick and that was problem.

i bought ick treatment and waited a day or two..and i bought 3 balas and a...cercilean worm? pardon my spelling..2 out of the 3 balas seemed really skinny and looked like babies and the other seemed normal. within the first 2 days the 2 skinnies died. So for about a week all i had was the bala and the worm.

now this bala...ive noticed his fins look like they are getting dissolved away..like..he barely has any back fin left =[ and i think tonight is his last night. It looks like some kinda of bacteria is on him and eating him alive or something..he looks kinda fuzzy and his fins are all tore up really bad. My boyfriend brought over anti fungal things that dissolve in the tank so i really hope that gets the bacteria out.

but do any of you havea clue what this is?

and by the way my worm is compeltely fine and unharmed.

..my poor fish =[

Your tank isn't cycled, spikes in nitrite, nitrate and ammonia resulted in extra stress on the fish in an already overpopulated tank and led to disease. First off, what is the temp you keep the tank at? What are your water change schedules? What is your filtration? If you have the water parameters, that would help enormously.

Plecos get up to 18 inches and need a far bigger tank, at least 140 gallons for a happy plecol. Bala Sharks need at least a 120 gallon tank, but probably a 200 for them to be healthy, they get far too large for a 29 gallon and are a schooling fish. Tetras are also schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of 6 or more, and it is likely that the tetra died from ich because of stress from an unhealthy living condition. I would reccomend asking for some help with stocking int the Freshwater Begginers section for a better idea on appropriate stocking of your tank.

unfortunately, introducing 'nature' to a tank usually means bringing in diseases. it sounds like it might have been septicimea, but i'd have to see pics to be more sure.
