disapering fin spots?

my daughters fantail goldfish had black on the tips of its anal fins kinda like the "calico" fantail we have. i couldnt remember if it was like this when we bought it so i just assumed it was....well today i give her the food to feed them, and sure enough the goldfish is entirely gold now....

whats up with that?

oh and it was like that for about 2 weeks....

Hi, one possibility is that it could have been an ammonia burn from high ammonia levels, when the burn starts to heal the scales turn black (which is when it is noticeable to us) and then back to normal - a bit like when we have a scab.

we change 25% of the water weekly in our tanks. i'd recommend that for your tank. the best time to test the water would be right before doing a water change to see what the levels are.

i'd recommend using Prime to treat your tap water. It will help lock toxins to protect your fish more.

I know in the past I've had goldfish who started out with some black markings and ended up all gold. Can't tell you why, but you aren't the only one who this has happened to...
Sorry I can't be of more help!!

we have lots of goldfish and koi
we have a koi with bright yellow spots now a dull yellow
we have a black golfish in our pond that always changes colors from black to orange
and another hatched in the pond that is a cross between a black and an orange goldfish that always changes colors
one goldfish was solid orange and turned to a solid silver
people have said that goldfish scales are like human hair
they gradually lose color as they get older
i am like an expert when it comes to goldfish and koi
