What is the best water temp for Mollies? I turned my temp up to 84 for a few days and my mollies just got lathargic and mostly hid. I have 2 air stones in the tank so I didnt thinktheir behavior was due to not enough air. I think they just didnt like it that hot, but I dont know because I have read and heard they like warm water. I know 84 is a bit high but I had it that high because I thought one of them may have parasites. I have since bought some paraguard and will start using it. I turned the temp back to 81 and they are more active. Just wondering what other people who have Mollies keep theirwater temp at. It's sure easy to see I am new at all this. Thanks for all and any help.

We let our fish-house tanks stay natural temps and just heat and cool the entire building rather than the majority of the tanks. (with exception of a few that need specialized temps of course.)

Mollies seem to do fine in the upper 70s lower 80s farenheit (77-82, 82 being the max high I would really take them to) You did awesome by the way, when you noticed something was not right and fixed the problem right away, congrats. If the parasite suspect is ICH you could also try increased waterchanges, 50% daily for a week, and keep the fish as happy as possible. (If they get stressed their immune system (slime coat) gets compromised easier, which is how the parasites attach to the fish.) Good luck.

yea, that's my guess - it's just gotta be sized down a little.. either with that site or with a photo working software like photoshop or paintshop pro, etc.. 640x480 or under i think.

This is a picture (finally) of Tangie (my mollie) that has the problem on her head. It had fluffy cotteny stuff on it as well as scales falling off in that place. I am using Para guard and the cotteny stuff has gone but it still doesnt look right. THANKS BY THE WAY FOR HELPING ME POST THE PIC.
All water levels are perfect. She is eating and swimming fine. Just dont know what else to do to help heal her of whatever she has. Thanks for any and all help.

Hmm.. from that pic, it looks to me like she's got a wound there. would you say that if you look at her, that spot sort of 'dips' below where her outer surface should be, like a little shallow hole has been taken out?

I think it is a wound also, Dave.

Perhaps the molly bumped into a rock kinda hard. (Noticed all the rocks in the picture and used my slick skills of deduction... )

Oh and I think the wispy cottony stuff is kinda like pus. bacteria coming from the wound that kinda becomes more of a solid than a liquid and almost acts as a scab, but kinda like pus still.. If that makes any sense to anyone but me.

There "was"cotteny stuff there before. Looked like she had cotton stuck to her head.
After I used Melafix and Pimafix for several days...the cottony stuff went away but the spot never did. Do you think she could have gotten fungus or bacteria in a wound? The scales are gone there. Will they grow back? I've been treating the tank for parasites to be on the safe side. (Para guard). Nothing seems to help that area on her head. A few weeks ago when it first was noticed I treated the tank with Rid-Fungus by Kordon. It didnt help either. I have done water changes and dont know what else to do.

There's a number of products that may help her regrow where the wound is.. VitaChem, Fish Protector and Rid-Fungus daily would be great, along with keeping her water very clean and maybe lower the temp to 78-80.

I believe there's another gel-type med that can be applied to wounds, but I can't seem to find it now.

The melafix and pimafix can be done for 7 days or more i believe.

Thank you! I will buy one of the meds and get it started. All levels are fine and other mollies are fine. Hope I can get this one molly healed. I very much appreciate your help!
