White worms?

My Oscar's tank has a ton of little white worm-looking things on the sides and bottom...they're about half the size of a pinky finger's nail, but they're everywhere! They're also starting to appear in my 10 gallon tiger barb tank....I can't find ANY information on these things! Anyone know what they are and if they're dangerous or just a nuisance?

Re: White worms?

I think they're planaria. If that's the case, they're harmless to the fish. I killed mine off by increasing the temperature. Mind you, I had to treat for ICH so maybe the treatment killed them off? Anyway. My molly fry just ate them up!

Re: White worms?

Ive just noticed that ive go them in my betta tank. I did some checking on the
net and found its caused by uneaten food - poor water quality, but have just
checked water stats and there perfect, and hes defenatly not over fed,
is there something im missing?

Re: White worms?

I agree that it's planaria too. Overfeeding or accumulating fish wastes and uneaten fish food (trapped in the gravel) will often cause planaria. The best solution is not to overfeed and to perform regular water changes with thorough gravel vacs. Fish may eat planaria too, thinking they're bloodworms

sometimes i'm not sure where they come from. we had some popup in one of the smaller tanks a couple months ago and it's just the betta in there with carefully monitored feedings.

Re: White worms?

My fish got rid of a planaria problem I had. We'd introduced this dodgy piece of driftwood and it came in the tank that way. My mollies soon got rid of them.
