Tank Cleaning

Hi Everyone!

I have had my 30 gallon tank for about a year and a half now. I remember when I first purchased all of my equipment, everyone, including much of my tropical fish research said that the cleaning of the aquarium should take place on a weekly basis; however, I have found that cleaning my tank every two weeks is superb for the fish. The water stays clean. My pleco really helps out with any algae growth which is extremely minimal as my tank water remains crystal clear. My fish are RARELY sick at all. Actually I have had just one case of ICH on one sunset platy for the entire year and a half. Also it's less stressful when for the fish when your hands aren't constantly mucking about in the tank. And when they ARE in the tank, I make sure to WASH my hands thoroughly before making any contact with the water. Be sure to wash any perfume/cologne off your arms as well. Hairspray, air freshener, perfume, and germs that you pick up on a daily basis can create real problems for your fish. I just thought these tips, although somewhat obvious could be helpful.
Happy fish keeping!

Re: Tank Cleaning

Ya that can work as long as you test your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and make sure it stays in the right levels. Glad you figured out something that worked for your tank and congrats on a good tank so far

Re: Tank Cleaning

Sounds like you've got it under control. Like Atm said though be sure and test for Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates. Your water can be crystal clear and these be high.
