tankmate question

hi there i have a 40L tank which has 1 male fighter , 2 female fighters and 4 guppies i was wondering what type of fish would be a good tank mate ? for them at the moment i been looking at neon tetras and the rummy nose tetras but i also would like a algae eater of some sorts but i don't want to over stock the tank any advise would be appreciated

Bettas do not make good tank mates with any fish, including other bettas. To be honest, I'm not sure how you've managed to keep everyone together without anyone getting seriously hurt. I would recommend moving the guppies to your larger tank (at least for now) and dividing the 40L into 3 sections to separate the bettas. Of course, with the tank divided you will not be able to add anything to the tank, but it will avoid having serious aggression issues down the road. Besides, bettas are happier when they are not sharing a tank with anyone else. They prefer to live alone and it is safer for everyone if they are allowed to.

thank you for replying Ive never had any problems with aggression apart from when the betta ate all my red cherry shrimp ,the betta may follow one of the females around for a while but that's it really Ive been keeping a close eye on them since i set the tank up i wouldn't want to move the guppies into my big tank i think the angels would finish them off however if i do at any point notice any aggression i will probably give the guppies to my mother who has a tank with some guppies in shes been eying up my flame tail since i got it .I would probably move the females into the big tank if there is any problems

Otocinclus Catfish do a good job on eating algae and don't get very big and are very peaceful. I agree with Prince Powder about the bettas though. I've heard of several cases of them getting nasty with guppies apparently because they have the pretty long fins like bettas too. That said I have heard about people keeping them together without problems. I'd be careful with a lot of algae eaters though because some of them get huge. I'm thinking about getting a couple of otos too

EDIT: I forgot to say, you can only really add the otos to quite established tanks I believe so you might want to wait a while if you only set it up in January
