bubble wall question

Hi Ya'll! I am setting up my new 30 gallon tank... I am so excited lol. I bought a bubble wall tube. Can you bury those part way into sand or do you have to just lay them on top? The package the the tube was in did not say either way. Thanks!!

Mine lays at the back of the tank on top of the substrate. I would think they wouldn't work as well if buried. I have stuff in fromnt of mine all you see is the bubbles.

They will still work but the bubbles will be different. Instead of the wall of fine bubbles they usually give out you will get less & larger bubbles. Some bits of it might not produce bubbles at all. Personally I like to burry them as I like the random effect. Let your personal taste dictate which way you have it.

No. If the substrate is already full of mulm then some will get stirred up for the first couple of minutes maybe but after that it will clear very quickly. You would stir up more rubbish just digging the trench to bury it in. It can in fact help push detrius into the water column where it can be collected by the filter, giving you a cleaner tank. Every airstone I use is buried & I've never had a problem with dirty water.

is it ok to have it partially buried in the substrate?

Yes. You can install it however it best suits you. I like those sort of things buried in the substrate as it helps keep them in place but it's no problem to have them partially buried or fully exposed either. You can even use suction caps to mount it halfway up the glass if you feel like it.
