Goldfish Help :/

Bonjour Fellow Mates Fish!

I just put my goldie into his 20g (FULLY CYCLED) with the temp at 78, slowly dereasing, he seems to stay in one spot and just hover, Im scared, what should I do? I acclimated him properly and everything, should I just wait, he gets some tank mates tommorow, im scared, thanks

Welcome to FishLore!!

If you would fill in your aquarium info, it would help the members to have all the info in one place.

If you just added him and the tank is cycled, it might take some time for him to get used to his new home

I think you should allow some time for the fish to settle in. My goldies showed this exact same behaviour when they were first introcuced to thier tank but they settled in after a few days. The temp is also considerably higher than the fish would be really happy with so that may be having an effect to.

As for tank mates, I wouldn't have any at all. Goldies are huge waste producers & should really be in a larger tank IMO if you want to have more than just the one goldfish.

I believe he just needs time to settle in, when adding my 2 new goldies to my tank I like you was very worried because they both just sat on the bottom and looked pretty listless..but within a few hours they were both swimming around checking things out..they are just very stressed right now, they'll get comfortable in no time...congrats on the new fish!!

I know the feeling of not knowing exactly what needs to be done... Is it just one goldfish? Stay put and let your goldfish settle in, but keep a close eye on it. In a mean while, congrats on the new addition and welcome to the forum!

What kind of goldie? any pics? what tankmates are you considering?

One goldfish in a 20 gallon pretty much stocks it. I would give your current goldie a chance to settle in. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to several days for a goldie to get used to a new tank. If there are no other signs of illness (redness, floating sideways, missing scales) then I would just watch for a day or two and see if your goldie perks up.
