Vanished Platy

Hi everyone.

I have a bit of a mystery. A scarlet platy has vanished from my tank overnight. There are no remains & there is absolutely no sign of it. This same fish used to keep chasing all the others about. The others are: 5 glowlight tetra, 4 other platy & 2 dwarf gourami.
There is a lid on the tank so it can't jump out.
Is it possible that it has been killed & eaten? I'd be interested to hear any possible answers.

Thank you.

That's happened to me as well. I always do a cleaning when I can't find one of my fish. Usually they do turn up under something, but I have had two that just disappeared. Oh, and I did have one I found on the floor under and to the rear of my stand that I found when I upgraded to a bigger tank. So that mystery was solved. I guess he was just a wee bit too rambunctious.

Check the floor for a few feet around the tank & underneath it as well. You would be surprised how far a fish out of water can get. Check your entire filter including impellor, housing, media & intake pipes. Any hollows in wood, rocks or other decor. Pay special attention around the bases of plants & the under side of any broad leaves. Under or behind your heater if the heater is inside your tank. If the tank is on a cabinet style stand check all of the gaps around the sides & back of the stand. Also check in the tiny gap between the tank & the stand edges. Examine every inch of substrate looking for part of the fish. It may well be partially buried. There is also the possibility that it died & the body consumed overnight by your other fish. You are overstocked so there are enough of them to do it & not much room for a body to dissapear away from them.

This happens to me sometimes and mainly they die overnight and get eaten. They could also have jumped out of the tank, so check around there, as other members have said.

Mines sometimes dissappeared, but I lucky found her alive under the tunnel as usual just sleeping. Maybe like other people said, check under tunnels and stuff. :/ Hopefully the fish is still alive and not dead.
