hello fish dude .... your gold fish don't have enough room(which would contribute to all the other not having enough room) gold fish need 20 gallons for 1, then 10 more for each additional gold fish, so if you went down to two goldies it would be pushing it with the other fish, i would advise to get a larger tank as soon as you can or sadly returning your goldies.

EDIT: in the mean time, frequent water changes as goldfish are BIG eater and BIG waste producers.

I would say drop the goldies (if possible) and you should be fine. I would think you could replace them with a few danios or glo fish.

I agree with steed..it might not look overstocked with the size of your fish..but goldies (and some others) are the exception to the "size" rule...their waste load is so huge, you have to have more gallons per fish to handle it....and depending on what type of goldies you have, some can get over a foot big....and the last thing, goldies arent tropical fish and like the temps to be cooler where as your cories and ottos, like it much warmer

agreed, i'd remove all of the goldfish, they're coldwater fish and will quickly outgrow that tank, and add at least 2 more otos and 5-6 more penguin tetras

I agree with the others. I owe you an apology. I didn't see the goldfish in your stocking list when I was advising you on the pleco.

So long as you tank is indoors, the temp should be fine. Goldfish are cold water fish, not tropical, so a heater is not required.

The cories, otos, and penguin tetra are all schooling fish. They would all appreciate being in groups of at least 3-5 each. They are also all "tropical" fish and need warmer water temperatures. They will probably need a heater to maintain a steady appropriate temperature. At that point, your 29 gallon tank would probably be pretty well fully stocked.

The goldfish are temperate/coldwater fish. They like a variable temperature - cooler at night and warmer during the day - from low to mid 60's to low to mid 70's. They can do fine in a much wider range of temperatures, and individual goldfish vary as to what temperatures they like. They do not need a heater. However, they do need a larger tank. Depending on if they are fancy or non-fancy goldfish, they should have 20 - 30 gallons for the first goldfish and an additional 10-20 gallons for each additional goldfish. They produce a lot of waste which is why they need such a large volume of water. 4 goldfish should be in (at the very least) a 55 gallon tank. Extra filtration is also helpful.

My suggestion would be to keep the tropicals in the 29 gallon, get it a heater, and fill out the schools to stock the tank. Then, if you decide you want to keep the goldies, get them a 55-75 gallon tank with a good filter (no heater needed) and move them into the larger tank.
