Restock!

Okay so i have a choice to make.

The problem: My 20 gallon is almost empty of fish at the moment. It only has 2 panda cory cats, 6 neon tetras, and a blue and gold inca snail. I want to put more fish in it. My parents said they would buy me more fish for my birthday (this friday!). Should i get new fish or should i move half of my guppy and platy fry in there from the 10gallon? I currently have (12) almost 2 month old guppy fry and (3) two and a half month old platy fry. What should i do? Or if i decide not to move the fry, any suggestions on what kind of fish i should get? Thanks!

You could move all the fish from the 10g into the 20g and then use the 10g as a quarantine in my opinion.

Happy Early Birthday

If the 20g is cycled, I would suggest four more corydoras so the two you have now feel more comfortable and happy (or at the very least, on more).

Those guppy fry are still pretty small, right? You could transfer some for now. I would think they're too small yet to cause much of a difference. But that's a lot of gupster/platy fry. Once they're full grown, I'm not sure there is room between those two tanks. Do you have plans for upgrading?

Also, HAPPY (soon to be) BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! Yay for fishies on birthdays!!!!!!!

Thanks guys! We do have two more tanks at the house a 35 and a 55 but they have pretty big fish in them. the LFS guy said that if i have too many fry that he would take them and trade store credit for them (he said he likes the home grown fry better). I don't know yet. Oh, don't tempt me with cory cats. they have to be one of my favorite types of fish.

*Edit* Yes the 20 gallon and all other tanks are cycled.

In that case, more cory cats is actually a really good choice. They're shoaling fish, which means they need to be in groups. 3 is the bare minimum, 6 or more will make them super happy. And they have the additional benefit of being ridiculously cute! Haha.

I think you can do 1-4 more cory cats and then 1-3 of some other variety. Maybe trasnfer a few of your favorite gupsters? Or maybe a single dwarf gourami instead of the gups; the dwarf gourami is a beautiful fish and one would look really pretty with your neons. Just some thoughts.

I have two pandas in the 20 and 2 emeralds in the 10. I'm thinking about getting some decent sized ones for the 55 gallon. Ummm.... i not too fond of gouramis. i don't know why though. i wouldn't mind getting some more platies.

I wonder if you combine the two types of cats if they will shoal. I know what you mean about the dwarf and larger gouramis. I only like the honey gourami because they're such sweet fish; I don't like fish with attitudes lol. Have you ever seen those blue platies? What colors are yours?

The platies that i have are sunburst wagtail platies. I used to have mickey mouse ones but i ended up taking them back to the fish store. They were aggressive, which i later learned was because the 10 gallon was overstocked. By overstocked i mean almost 25 fish and 2 smallish common plecos. *gasps* yes i know. but i have learned from that experience. What about tiger striped platies or some black neon tetras?

*Edit* What about some Rummy nose tetras or X-ray tetras? Or would the chance of fin nipping be too great if i decided to add guppies?

Yes i do realize that the posts are back to back, but i don't want anyone to get the two questions mixed up.

What do you think i should put in the 55 gallon when the current fish in there pass away? Most of the fish vary in age from 1 year to 5 years. My dad was thinking of making it either into a salt water tank, or adding angel fish. i'm trying to talk him out of the salt water because of the costs. I was thinking about a huge live bearer tank. What does everyone think?
