Am I fully stocked?

Hi, I have a newly cycled acquarium, took quite a while but finally getting 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5-10 nitrate.

I have 6 guppies, 2 long finned zebra danios, 2 glo fish, 2 albino corys, 1 peppered cory, 1 pleco, 3 raspbora hs (sp), 2 dwarf gourami, 1 platy, and 1 mystery snail. I have a bunch of questions so not sure if I do separate threads but thought I'd ask a few in one?

1. Am I already overstocked?

2. Could a blood parrot work with this set-up if not already overstocked?

3. Instead of the blood parrot, should I add more of the schooling species to get to 5-6 of each?

4. Can two dwarf gouramis coexist? I know it's not optimal to have two (last time I trust LFS employees) but has anyone ever kept 2 in a 55 gal? I have had mine for about 3 weeks, occasionally they chase each other but usually keep to themselves.

Hey there grats on ur tank

I don't think your over stocked .. I have around 25 in my 55g tank .. Probably a few more I've lost count... Good filtration is key... Moderate plantation and logs is good for hiding spots , and plants good for fighting off ammonia and other nasties..

Well done..

You seem fine with your stocking. I can't help you with the dwarf gourmai question. But i don't think a blood parrot would work with those fish you already have. I would just go with more schooling fish. Sorry if i wasn't any help!

I have to Dwarf Gourami's in my 36 gallon tank and they get along "swimmingly"!

There is a general rule of thumb of 1" of adult size fish per gallon. So if you add up the total inches of adult size fish, and it is under 55 you are not overstocked...probably. The only thing is Pleco's are huge waste producers so you may want to stay a bit under 55" of fish.

What type of pleco is it? If it's a smaller one, you're not overstocked, but if it's a larger one, you may want to run extra filtration to handle the increased bioload if you add more fish.

IMO I wouldnt put a parrot in that setup ..he would be too large and they like company of their own...and as others said, if the plec is a common, you are maxed out bioload wise....if its not a common plec, I would get one gourami and then restock more of the schooling fish..glofish, danios, platies, and cories would all like a few more to help their school along...good luck and congrats on the cycle!!!!

Thanks all for the advice!!! I might take the plec back, my friend gave it to me as a birthday present along with the glo fish and mystery snail. I'm not sure what type it is. I am going to go with the schooling suggestion.

Do glofish tend to school with danios, I read they are genetically altered danios, if that's the case I'm thinking a couple more glofish.

Is 6 the minimum school size for the schoolers or does it vary by species?

if you return the plec, I would get 3 more danios and 3 glofish, 3 more cories, and 3 more platies....but not all at once..you want to add 3-4 fish a week then give it 2 weeks to let the bacteria catch up and add 3-4 more..unless you are adding LARGE fish of course..but you arent..
