i just drank tank water!!!

Okay, so I have one of the fish tank vaccum things that are like one big plastic tube, then one tiny, long plastic tube.... They require suckin to ge tht whole process started... There is a technique, but I forgot it, so I shyphoned the water, and got some in my mouth....

Did you swallow any? I don't think a little tank water would hurt either way, I've inhaled fish water many a time. (woops)

try to watch that water stream, those chemicals we have to put in the water can possibly be good for us.

next time, you can submerge the whole vaccum in the tank, let the whole thing fill with water, and leave the vacuum end in the tank. Block the end of the tubing with your thumb, place the hose in the bucket, and release your thumb. The water should start flowing flowing.

How'd it taste? I wouldn't worry unless you swallowed cup fulls. You'd probably have a bigger psychological reaction than anything else. Have you ever swam in natural water or play in a stream catching frogs and minnows? Well if you haven't, don't worry, millions do and we're all fine... for the most part. If you're concerned about the chemicals you put into your water, you can download the msds for everything online and they'll let you know how concerned you need to be... but I wouldn't worry.

Don't worry, when I was a kid (about 5 or 6) I drank water from a stream because I wanted to be a duck. Maybe that's when I got the "fish" disease

Other than that, nothing happend to me

Hello Bettafish! Now you're going to start growing scales!!!!!! LOL (sorry had to say it). I think you'll be fine. I've been a fish keeper for many years and I've swallowed more than my share of tank water.
The link Lucy provided is great!

Used to happen to when I first started, and i'm a habitual gagger. I would gag and spit the stuff anywhere but back in the tank--never pretty.

LOL Beth. I would keep a towel in the floor by the tank just so I would have a place to spit.

I'm quite lucky as my 8 yr old daughter watches me every water change i do. As soon as the water gets too far down the tube she shouts DAAD, my queue to remove tube from mouth saving any water finding it's way into my mouth. But sometimes i'm not quick enough, which makes her laugh. She is always trying to make me do a 50% change(i think she likes watching me gag). She can do the next one, lets see how she likes it LOL.

I just stick my tube in the water and move it straight up and down a few times. This motion forces water into the hose and starts the process. Simple and it doesn't cause a disturbance at all.

I've done that on occasion too while vacuuming my tank and I'm mostly normal. The water doesn't taste too bad actually ... a little like chicken.

At least no one spat in your tank. I guess that's sort of the oposite of what happened here.
