Angel Dead

Hi,

I am stumped and so is the LFS (and they know what they are talking about for a change)

I found one of my angels dead at the bottom of the tank this morning and the other 2 are hanging at the top of the tank so I am afraid they are going the same way.

ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate under 5. I have adone a 30% water change anyway and all the other fish seem fine. I havent seen any signs of the angels being harrased and the fish seemed to all get on fine. The angel which had passed had no signs of ammonia poisoning (no red gills etc) and showed no signs of distress until this morning where I found 1 dead and 2 at the surface.

Any ideas? - the LFS said they would replace them if they died as it might just be a bad batch but I want to do what I can to keep the current ones alive. They are maps angels and so beautiful.

Any ideas?

I assume you just purchased them. I ten dto think that they could just be a bad batch.
Your h20 perameters are good. How long has the tank been cycled?

OOOOH sorry to hear about your losss..
Double check your pH....I lost some fish once and it was PH shock, also your water temp. Continue to keep am eye on your parameters although everything seems fine. Amonia poisoning is not easy to detect by viewing the fish. Red colored gills is normal if you can seem them....I lost some fish a few years ago and the gills turn grayish...no oxygen or blood circulation.
Do you use anyother chemicals for anything??
Is you LFS loosing any of theirs?...or you bought them elsewhere?

I have had them for 1 week today and I acclimatised them over an hour.

Tank has been cycled for about 2 months now, nitrate is "low" because of live plants.

LFS said they lost a few but that theirs are aquarium bred so not as fragile as the ones from the lakes.

Hummmmm.....
What are the readings for water parameters at the LFS as opposed to your tap water??
I find it a bit strange that 1 would die and 2 sickly within a 24 hour period with out water problems. They lost a few also but the odds of you buying 3 weak ones

IF your Ph is way different than theirs is, then an acclimation of 1 hour won't help too much, it takes a while to affect their internal operations.

What are you using to test your water with? strips?(not recommended) or liquid test kit?

Keep doing water changes while this gets figured out and maybe you can save the other 2.

using liquid test kits and it happened over a week not 24 hours. The other fish in the tank are fine and I bought all the angels at the same time, they are about 10 minutes away from here so I dont know if the ph would be that different but havent tested it so I might ask them.

I'm so sorry about your angel. How many of them do you have in your tank? And just a soft reminder, kindly please update your aquarium info. I don't see the tank with your angels. Thanks!

I need to update both tanks lol Will do it now, I had 3 in the 125g which was well planted and they were all juveniles so I was looking out for any signs of aggression and the LFS said at the sign of any aggression I could take one or all back depending on what the problems were of course!

I dont think its an aggression problem as the other 2 angels are hanging out at the top of the tank now so I really would appreciate advice asap before I risk loosing another .

Sorry for b2b post I just really need help here . angels still at top of tank, ammonia still 0 nitrites still 0 nitrates still under 5. I really dont want to lose them but I dont know what I can do, they are the only fish acting weird. I have added some garlic water into the tank incase its parasites, I havent fed any fish today to cut down on waste. There is no aggression between any tank mates (I spend around 4 hours a day watching the tank up close and a few hours from a distance so I can see my syno (he only comes out when he thinks no one is watching).

Please I am open to any suggestions.

update: all angels are now dead.

LFS said they bought in a bad stock and wont be buying from that breeder again. They were so beautiful - its a shame .

On a good note I can get 1 more geophagus red head with the store credit.

That's really sad Diggly. I'm sorry you had to watch them die. Poor things. Glad to hear your LFS owner isn't going to buy from that seller/breeder anymore.
