good combination?

Hi all

Ok basic position I am in at the moment my (17 year old) step son had a party one evening when we went away and basically had mass fish death when we got back, basically he put his speakers next to the tank :s

Anyways we had a couple of survivors from the party however they have since passed away,

Now I kept the tank cycled with food and have been looking at possible combinations of fish for the tank (this is for my 60 litre tank) I believe I have come up with a good combination but just wanted to check with you guys and girls if it has any potential problems before I go out and start the long process of re-stocking the tank

So what I am looking at is
2x Male Guppies
2x Male Paltys
2x Cory Cats
1x Dwarf Gourami

Now my main concerns are :-
Corys like to be in groups of 5 or more, will it matter too much if I only have 2 as the information seems to be that a lot of people do only keep a couple?
Will the Gourami get along with the Guppies with them being all top dwellers?
Does it make any difference with the Platys and Guppies are all male or are they likely to fight with each other?

Thanks for any advice you can give me

Personally, I'd drop the gourami, add a cory & add another guppy. That would be a friendly, well-rounded tank.

Hello...thats weird they would die from speakers being too loud...sure they didnt poor something into the tank?

I agree with amanda...id skip the gourami and add a few more cories...

well when it comes to 17 and 18 year olds anything is possible, i just expected it was from the speakers (vibrations) since we had some fish still alive, and as the tank is on our oak table the speakers where on the same table so more likely to get the vibrations going into the water.

any reason for dumping the gourami? i was thinking of one as a 'centre peice' for the tank

gouarmis arent nice in the playground usually...and with a 15/16g tank, he would harass the platies and guppies as they are all over the place...if you have a back up tank, in case he isnt nice , you could attempt it...but usually, they are more territorial and need bigger tanks with other fish...you could have him with a nice school of cories though!

They're more aggressive & in a small tank, they're harder to keep in check.

lol

well i will have to tell him next time he plans on having a party to invite you all!

well i do have a 35L tank 'spare' which i use for a holding and quarantine tank so i always have it as a option,

its just i keep reading everywhere that the dwarfs are to quote another site "Dwarf Gouramis are peaceful towards other fish species and is therefore often kept in community aquariums with other non-aggressive fish species" and "Dwarf gouramis are often kept together with tetras, guppies and swordfish."

of course i dont want to put in any fish that will upset the balance and was planing on leaving the dwarf to last anyway so i suppose i can wait and see how the rest of the tank progresses, any other thoughts for any potential 'show/centre peice' fish i could look at or would you stick with upping the cory count?

Hello gonzo. I hope the boy had permission to have the party. If not he'd be grounded! LOL Sorry to hear about your fish loss. I have read in the past threads that LOUD vibrations/music can do harm to your fish.
