Slow cycle?

helloo

im still new to keeping fish and i have done alot of research before i started up a tank. its a 15gal tank and i was told it would be ok to cycle the tank with danios because they are hardy fish. i started cycling on about the 11th of october and after about a week the ammonia level went up to 1.5 and the nitrate/nitrite is at <0.3 it has been the same now till present day. is it normal for a cycle to take so long? because following the instructions on the net it says it should be nearly done by now

IMO you have a stalled cycle. Try doing one 40-50% water change to re-start it

welcome to fishlore!
as beth mentioned, cycling with fish is super hard on them and daily water changes with some prime conditioner, are whats needed so they dont die MOST LFS dont give you that information and allot of us have started out as you are...but for the safety of your fish , the water changes , prime, and a few weeks of patience are going to be needed ...or you can return the danios and follow one of these methods of cycling
