Is my tank overstocked?

Hello all! I have been a lurker on this site for many months now and you all have helped me through many things (like cycling and my first outbreak of ICH). So, thank you for helping me and not even knowing it! I have never had a tank before but, after lots of expensive city aquarium trips and fish store window shopping, my boyfriend and I decided it is too good to resist. We have a 55gal tank set up since August. We ran with only plants and shrimp for a little over a month during cycling until all water parameters were satisfactory. We had a small snail outbreak towards the end of the cycle so 3 small clown loaches were added (we are aware that 55gal tanks are not recommended for these fun fish, we worked it out with LFS so that they would take them back when they get larger). About a week later we added 3 Platys, 3 Dalmation Mollies, and 3 Zebra Danios. (We had a rather large platy baby show up this week during water change-tough little thing survived in our driftwood and now that he is bigger he swims all over.) Last week, we added a very cool Twig Catfish, and just today 2 more Zebra Danios and 4 quarter sized Angelfish. Water Parameters: Ammonium 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10, pH 7.5, and temp. 78. So, after all that..my question is, is our tank ok? We have really tried to do everything carefully and have researched every step of the way. We love our fish and they do truly all have personalities of their own. We would really hate to overstock and stress them out. Thank you for all your advise and insight, even when you didn't know you were giving it!

welcome to FL as an official member!

I'm new too, so I can't answer your question, but I'd love to see pictures. Your twig catfish sounds awesome.

welcome to fishlore!!!
I think other than the 4 angels, you would be ok...2 angels would be good with the other fish you have though!
I also would love to see pics

Welcome, you lurker! I also think 4 angels sound too many. I would say 2, the rest sounds good.

I, too, agree with only two angels. Especially since you may end up with more baby mollies and platies. From what I understand, mollies breed almost as fast as guppies (and rabbits ).

Many thanks

Thank you all for your welcomes and quick replies. I now have the daunting task of breaking it to my boyfriend that two of his angels must go (they were his pick-he instantly thought they were so cool and was very excited to add them to our community). Is it just having four in a 55 gal or is it the amount of fish we already have? Just curious as the owner of LFS is the one who recommended four and I would like to know what to say when we bring them back? Thanks again all-very glad I finally joined!

Welcome to fishlore!
I'm pretty sure the reason you should only have 2 angels is because they can be very aggressive. Too many of them could bring out a lot of aggression issues with your tank. I'm not 100% sure on this but I know you'll get more answers soon. Good luck with your tank!
