| oh no im also so very sorry!!
but tetra disease usually only infects the neons and has been very rare as of late not saying thats not what happened though... ...what signs of illness/death did you have? |

| That's horrible. I'm sorry for your losses. Do you plan to re-stock? When will the water be safe for re-stocking? Do you know? |

| I'd look at another cause besides NTD.
Although quite a few fish besides neons can contract it, Cardinals don't. |

| well im not 100% if it was ntd
but i lost all my black neons except for one thats in my QT and i lost all my cardinals, yet my silver tips, harlequins, and sae are all fine. the fish that died all started to loose their color and it looked like white patches were growing over there neon strips making them disappear and they wouldn't swim much |

| How does the water test? And are you sure your tank was fully cycled? How did you cycle the tank?
I looked at your profile and it says this tank was just setup 10/25/09. You have quite a few fish in there for a tank thats only been setup for approx 3 weeks. I'm wondering if your tank is still going through the cycle and some sort of spike (i.e ammonia, nitrite, etc..) is causing all these issues? |

yes your nitrite levels are dangerously high, do the water change quickly, and most likely will have to continue to do so until the tank is cycled if your keeping fish in it, check the ammonia and nitrite daily, if there even a little high do a partial water change, disreguard the nitrite comment i was looking at a previous page, but as i said before the tank isnt cycled or your have a nitrate reading Last edited by Lucy; December 2nd, 2009 at 11:52 PM.

| The substrate is not the right one if u intend to grow live plants. Please change the substrate......the best i wud recommend is "aqua soil amazonia" which is expensive but worth the money and comes in dark brown color and u could order it online if u dont find it in a petstore. |

I have 3 tanks that are overgrown every other week and I use nothing more than the standard gravel you'd find in a LPS. There's a lot more that goes into growing good aquatic plants than just substrate.... |
