Stocking ideas

Hi again.

While "paitently" (read impatiently) waiting for my tank to cycle I've decided to do a stocking list for my tank. I have hard water and since I don't want to keep adjusting the hardness I want to add fish that thrive in this type of water.

So far I know for sure I will get some male guppies (around 6). They will be my starter fish. The last in the tank will be some type of corydoras (Three-striped, masked, or panda). I heard they like to live in group so that would mean around 6 of them. I wonder if I mix different types of corydoras if they will school together?

So far I have 12 fish on my list. How many more could I add? I was also thinking to have some sort of center fish in my tank something not to big but not too small and with some color. And someone that would not nip my guppies and like hard water (am I picky or what? )

I also want a snail and some cute shrimps if there's room for them.

As I read the oppinions on compatibility and water quality differs from source to source. I think is better to ask the experts (you) so please give me some stocking ideas for my tank.

Thanks!

Watch out corys can get pretty big and 6 of them in a 29g is not typical. So could do with 3-4 and maybe 2 amano shrimp, just make sure you have some cave type deco's,

The corys I listed grow to max 2". That's big? I guess I could start with 3 and see how it goes.

I was recently looking at some beautiful chiclids, wonderi if one butterfly chiclid will get along with guppies.

Cories are fine in a school of 6 or more. Sometimes different types of cories would school. Maybe get different types but in pairs. So 6 would do nicely. Since you want to get a cichlid, you could get one cichlid as a centerpiece. Then have your guppies and cories. How many is up to you. Best of luck!

You'd need a small cichlid, a Dwarf Cichlid if you wanted any. I'd go for a Bolivian Ram or a German Blue Ram (Like me!), they go 3-4". There are very few that will tolerate community set ups, so I'd wait and see what other Cichlid exprienced members have to say. I'd go for five Corydoras, and four male guppies and a single Cichlid that is under 4", It's quite understocked, but it'd be best for the aquarium. I'd add the guppies first, then the cory's then the cichlid to minimise aggression

Good luck!
