upgrading from 28 gallon to a 55 gallon tank.

Hi,

I have had a 28 gallon fish tank in my room, now I want to upgrade to a 55 that I am getting tommrrow.

I had a few questions:

1. How many fish can I add to a 55 gallon tank? Here are the fish I have now. Since they are community fish I was going to add to each one so each fish I had had 4 in a group.
2 barbs that are yellow, i can't find the name..
2 bleeding heart Tetra
1 Black Phantom Tetra
3 black fish that i know are tetras
1 Rummyrose tetra
1 unkown that has a red tail

I want to put these fish in groups of four. I know I should know the name of the fish...

How many more fish can I add to a 55 gallon tank?

How about posting some pictures? The unknown with a red tail makes me wonder what type of fish it might be It'll help with letting you know how many more you can add.

Hi Shark and WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

I agree with Kitsune, pictures will help us and other members to identify your unknown fishes The black fish that you know are tetras could be Black neon tetras but pictures will indeed help. I would suggest having more of each tetras to make them into a school as all tetras feel safer and live better in schools. Hope to see those pictures up soon. Best of luck!

Red tail....shark?

Yellow barbs are most likely gold barbs.

If you want a community and the red tailed fish is infact a shark, it may have to go when the shark matures.

I would get larger schools of tetras, but have less schools. IMO 3 would be a maxmum, with 2 being better if you want to keep non tetra schools as well. A larger, centerpiece fish would look nice and will probably make the tetras school a little tighter. I've found that in the absence of a larger fish, tetras tend to spread out.

Hello Sharkguys and Welcome to Fish Lore. Here is a link to a photo of a red tail shark:

If this is the fish that you have then it is suggested that you only have one per tank due to aggression/territorial issues. I have one myself and I highly recommend that you go with this guideline.
I hope you enjoy the site!

Hey sharkguys and welcome to fishlore!!!

Before we can make recomendations as to what fish you can add to your tank we need to identify all the fish already in there. Can you post any pictures? If you can post pictures of the fish I'm sure we'll be able to identify them for you

Good morning. Not all fish are best kept in groups. Some fish will not even tolerate members of their own species in the same tank and will fight until one or both are deceased. If you'll go to the top right hand corner of this screen and do a search for each fish you would like to keep, you'll find a lot of good information there.
Best wishes!
