Please help

hi there ,im not sure if im in the right forum, ive just joined, but i need some help. i have a biorb 60ltr its about n6 to 8 wks old now,and my water was as it should be blah blah.3 wks ago i added 2 dwarf gouramis and 1 of them[i call him spot,HO ho] ended up with ICH,white spot. ok no panic...i buy the biorb first aid kit and have been using it for the recommended time of 2 wks.so far no other fish show signs of spots and spot himself is very fit,he is swimming eating etc.i am now supposed to put the normal maintenance cartridge back in the tank but his spots still havent cleared and in fact he has more on him??im thinking whether i should use another first aid filter for another 2 wks or buy some drops to treat it or use aquarium salt PLUS drops!im very confused pls help!!!!

Hi fastcat! welcome to fishlore!
Ive moved your post so it can get better attention for what you need instead of in another members welcome thread

what are your readings for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates? sounds like the tank needs to be cycled still

2 gouramis in that size tank are going to be a war zone as they are too territorial to be together..especially in a bio orb without swimspace which might be causing major stress and the ich outbreak ...to treat the ich, the temps need to be up to 84F for 2 weeks..the higher temps will kill the ich cycle...do 2 gravel vacs a week to clean up the ich spores but make sure the new water is the same warmer temp thats being added back in..add an extra bubble wand as warmer water has less oxygen.....NO salt as that would stress them more and act as an irritant...

goodluck and I hope things get better!

havent had the water checked for 2 wks since i added the new fish but it was spot on[excuse the pun]when i added the gouramis .they seem to get on ok actually and, like i said the first aid cartridge is supposed to take care of illness after 2 wks?im going to do a partial water change.should his spots have fallen off by now though?

me again....so should i treat the tank again with some different stuff?thanks....pauline

Hello. I have merged your threads to save some space. There is an "edit" key at the bottom of every post for corrections and additional thoughts.
Thanks!
Ken

see if you can find yourself an API liquid master test kit..it has everything you need and you wont have to rely on a fish store to tell you the water is good..if your water is right on as they tell you , ask them what they got for ammonia/nitrites/nitrate readings so you can have that for your own records...also if the water is spot on, its the stress from them being together thats causing the ich...dont rely on them for your water tests especially with a fish store that sells you 2 gouramis for a 15g bio orb fish tank one of them is going to harrass or kill the other in that size tank ...

EDIT: no treatments just raise the temp and other advice I gave you in the first post ..labyrinth fish ( gourami's and bettas) dont do well with meds

Hello FastCat. I'm not familiar with the First Aid Cartridge. I highly recommend following Shawnie's advice on curing the ICH. There is no need for medications that can possibly destroy your cycle when the cure can be done naturally.

I recommend having your own test kit as well. What is most recommended on this site is the API (liquid) Master Test Kit. Test Strips can be very unreliable and inaccurate. Do you know what your pet store used to test your water?
