New tank Betta Tank, I have a few questions

Hi all.

This afternoon I setup a new tank to replace an old one. I ended up getting a Rena Light 30 (30 Litre Hex Fronted Tank). I set everything up and have used a new Air Pump Driven Filter using the filter media from old filter (Going to be housing a betta) and the existing heater. This is not my first tank but Ive come across a few little issues that im hoping you guys and ladies can solve.

1. I have millions of tiny bubbles all over my glass and filter, Is this normal and how long will they take to clear? is there anything that I can do to get rid of them quicker, Ive had a simular problem before but not to this degree.

2. I fixed the background to the back of the tank using vasoline and tape as described here and as I have done before. this time for some reason I have ended up with LOADS of tiny dark spots (the background is plain blue), Ive tried all sorts but I cannot get these darn thing to go away (I dont think its water).

thanks in advance for any help and advice and I will try and get some pics up tommorow.

mark

I've gotten a bunch of tiny bubbles when filling a new tank also. They do go away eventually. I guess you could go over the glass with an algae scraper of something to disperse them.

I just tape my background to the back of the tank, so I really can't advise on the dark spots with the vasoline. For me any dark spots had been caused by water.

Just a reminder, don't forget to feed the bacteria with an ammonia source until you put your betta in there. You wouldn't want to starve off your bacteria and have to cycle from scratch!

thanks for the quick reply.
I will have a go with an algae scraper and see if that does the trick, thanks.
As far as feeding the bacteria, I have put a few flakes of food in the tank. Im hoping that will be enough until tommorow as it is the only thing I could think of with taking a fish from another tank. will this be enough?

Lucy: Thanks for editing my post, I would not have thought that word would be classed as offensive. my bad and I will know for future reference

thanks again

i usually have bubbles occur only when setting up a new tank, never one that has been used before, they should go away in a couple of days,

the bubbles are probably from the tank being warmer/colder than the water put in it to fill it up ....just normal air bubbles and will go away if they havent already

cant wait to see your new boy!

thanks again all.

I used the algae scrubber and it worked for 80% of them, The rest im hoping will go over time. This is a new tank, ive just transfered some stuff over from an old tank (filter media etc...).

thanks for the info all, ive managed to get a photo sorted and will be posting it in the correct forum soon.

thanks again

Next time you setup a new tank, try filling the tank with a couple of inches of water BEFORE putting in gravel/sand.

I had this happen to me once and I'm pretty sure it was due to me dumping in gravel before I put any water in. All that air that was trapped under and within the gravel had to escape somehow!!

Anyway, give it a couple of weeks and it'll go away. Along with the algea scrapper on the glass, try moving around some gravel to stir up the air bubbles. That should help release them into the water.
