Newbie questions of Guppies and 120 gallon tanks

How long would it take for 2 females and 1 male to fill a well planted 120 gallon tank?

Where can you get a good priced tank, preferable from 100-150 gallons, or how could you go about building one?

What other fish would look good in a big tank of guppies, yet not kill nor be killed in it.

How many, if any, snails could be put in the tank?

Hi Nahara, Welcome to Fishlore! If you want to quickly fill a 120gal with Guppies, I'd get 2 Males and 4-6 Females. It will take 4 good size females one month to produce enough fry to stock the tank, although thats not allowing for fatalities and the parents eating the fry. If the tank is well planted then I'd say it would be fully stocked around 6 months after the start date.

Maybe I'll just get 10-15 females and 5-7 males...

Cory cats, a pair of angels, bristlenose plecostomas all should so well with guppies. The cory catfish and bn pleco would do the job of the snails without the bioload that the snails would add. I guess in a large tank that would not be so important, though.

If you keep Angels with Guppies then you won't have any fry survive for more than about 2 minutes. I'd trust BN Plecs, Corys and not much else.

Scour Craigslist for a good deal on a 100 to 125 gal tank.

Hi Nahara and WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

Glad to know that you're starting a 120g planted tank with a Guppy family. Sounds like fun! As Nick said, best to get 2 males and 4-6 females. Don't have too many, then you'll have loads of work to do. Start with 2 males first. If you're doing fine with them, then you can move on to more "Everything has to start small first before you can reach for the top"

You could find great deals of second hand tank on Cragslist. Many members here check out that site and find such great deals.

Angels basically eat any fish that fits in their mouth, so yeah. Cories would do nice You could get a school of them, 6 or more.

Best of luck and hope to see pictures up when you set up the tank.
