Oh great!

Are my fish going to go into shock? My tank has been very warm(83-82) and I don't use a heater. Well a cold front hit me last night and the temp in my tank dropped to 76-77. Everyone seems to be doing good. I hope no one goes belly up from shock. Well I want to add my heater but I forgot what I set it too? Should I put it on the lowest setting and slowly turn it up?

You might want to wait for another opinion on this, but I would go ahead and set the heater to your desired temp. I don't believe the temp will shoot right up, but gradually heat up.

In nature water temps in the tropics can vary between day and night, so the 5 degree variance itself won't shock them as much as how quick it happens. If it's gradual (a degree an hour) they'll be fine. It's the instant changes or temps outside their range that harm them. Set your heater to the desired temp and then leave it alone. It heats up gradually and does not instantly have the water heated at the temp you set. Around 77-78 degrees is best for everyone in your stocking list, but they can all handle the low 80s too as long as there's enough oxygen to go around.
