Product Questions

Several questions. I know I have discussed most of these things with you guys before, but just in case the groupthink has changed since I've been away for a few months I am going to rehash.

1. I hate the smell of Prime. The other good stuff is Amquel?

2. I already use Vita-Chem. Do I really need Garlic Guard AND Fish Protector (for bettas with chronic fin issues) or would one of the two suffice?

3. Do live plants purchased online look good when they arrive? Because in the photos they look way better than most I see in stores.

Thanks, all! Finny and Bowie say hello.

hiya sharkitty..wb!!

1. amquel+ or prime will do the same thing..the regular amquel will not
2. you dont need garlic guard as you can get fresh garlic in the jar at your grocery store, and it will do the same thing...and much cheaper! as far as fish protector, theirs no comparison to that..but stress coat+ is close....
3. IMO no they do not look the same unless you buy them from a member as the LFS and others, send small amounts that need time to grow to look like the pics..most members can share pics of current plants not what their potential is ...

Hi finny and bowie!

Aquariumplants.com gives you a pic of exactly what's being sold...that may give a better idea

As Shawnie said, Amquel+ will do the same things Prime does (but it will make the API ammonia test show false positive for ammomia. But the manufacturer of Amquel+ recommends usuing it in conjunction with AquaNova (which helps with the slime coat).

But Stress Coat, while not helping to detox ammonia, nitrites or nitrates , contains Aloe Vera which is very good for damaged fins.

Remember too, many plants go through a period of adjustment after you put them into your tank and may end up losing leaves and looking a little rough until they settle in. For that reason I wouldnt pay huge shipping prices just to have plants look ragged anyway. Enthusiasts plant on buy sell trade have gotten good reviews and you can see the actual plant you will be getting. I have purchased from this forum as well as others and all plants have done great.
