Mystery Snail Clutch

I have 2 Mystery Snail clutches that are just 2 weeks old. I am concerned that the other fish will eat the baby snails once they hatch. Should I place them in a seperate tank and hatch them there? OR ... Will they hide in the gravel until their shells harden and they can protect themselves?

My other fish are Neon Tetras, Zebra Danios, Platys, and a Cory Catfish.

what type of snail it? cause i can tell you that some type will reproduce ALOT quickly so you myght not have to worry about it. I personally have those fish (plus some zodiac loach that eat the smaller one) and they still manage to multiply all the same so im not to affraid you will get more small they tend to breed pretty good. (has long has they have food you will get more)

I had a blue mystery snail that laid the clutches. She is now in a tank at school. I kept the gold mystery snail, a male.

If you try to move the clutches, you're likely to kill the babies right then - they need to be kept in humid conditions, but not submerged, so it would be pretty tricky to try it.

As for your fish eating them, I'm not certain. You could wait until they hatch and then rescue the individuals.

Hi Rob. Mystery snails lay there eggs above water. Is that what she did? You can take them to a different tank but make sure the clutch doesn't get wet. You will have to float them on something that isn't right in the water. I use one of those plastic breeder box's with a slotted top on it. Set the clutch on top of that. That way the babies can fall into the water in the breeder box. Of course this is floating in a tank of water. If you leave them in the community tank they will get eaten. This is up to you as to wether you want them or not.

The eggs are above the water. Am I better to move them prior to hatching or wait until the hatch and transfer them over?

In the breader tank ... should I move some gravel and water from the main tank so that there is enough algae for them to eat?

If you move them you have to be very careful. They are very fargile. Yes use the same water. If you wait until they hatch I don't think you will ever find them. They are very tiny a barely able to see.

The other option is let them be as there would be hundreds more coming!

Hi Rob. I take the clutches after they have been there for at least 24 hours to give them time to harden a bit. You can use different things to push them off of where she laid them. I use my thumb and finger and just push slowly but firmly to get them off of there. There are several ways to incubate them yourself. I incubate them and then put them babies in my "snail baby tank" to grow out some. Then they go to friends and get new homes all over once they get big enough for you to see them. The babies are not as fragile as you might think they are just very small. Check out www.applesnail.net and you will get loads of info on them there pretty much anything you need to know and if I can help in any way I would be glad to.
