Adding fish to a 10 gallon tank?

I'm going to be adding 6 cardinal tetras to a fully cycled tank. Do I add them all at once, or just get a couple more every few days?

Also, considering a guppy as well....if I got a guppy, would it be safter to add the guppy first or the tetras first (or does it not matter)?

4 to start, then the other two after a week or two. you don't want to overload the biofilter.

I don't think a single male guppy would overload your tank too much. you'd have to stay on top of your (bi)weekly water changes, but I think it can be done. Maybe add the guppy last so the cardinals can have some time to calm down.

Well if you add 1 guppy it wont be as "alive" by itself I would consider 3-4.
So they can interact with each other

I respectfully disagree. 3-4 guppies in addition to the neon tetras would be to much strain on the beneficial bacteria.

I wouldn't want to get a guppy if it wouldn't be all that happy without other guppies, so I guess the tetras for now would be the best thing (unless I change my mind and go for a few guppies)

If you get the guppies, don't forget to get all one gender unless you are prepared to deal with fry.

Yep. Would definitely go with males so I wouldn't have to worry about bringing home a pregenant one as well

Hi Rick, I'd say that with good regular maintenence that your tank could easily house 6 Cardinal Tetras and 3 or 4 Male Guppies. I would go for Males over Females as males are more colourful and also a lot smaller than the females.

Since it is only a 10 gallon tank, I would add three tetras, wait two weeks and add the other three.
