Good fish to house with bala shark?

I was wondering what fish would be good with a bala shark in a 55 gallon tank.

Welcome to the site.

Bala's should be kept in groups and need very large tanks. They get up to about 15" or so if properly cared for. They need llots of swimming room also.
My opinion would be not to keep Bala's in a 55. Other people may tell you different.

welcome to fishlore!!!!

I agree with brian...bala's like some of their own and although do ok by themselves, you get much more personality and life out of them when they can school together...

seeing how you are just starting out, id return mr bala and look at some other tropicals... heres a great link for a bunch with their tank sizes and compatabilities ..

if you decide to do that, we have allot of members willing to help with a different stocking plan...goodluck!

I agree with btate, they should not be housed in a 55g. They like long tanks as well. Please look for a different type of fish to keep in a 55g.

some pet stores will take them for free just to find them a new home (and make money off him of course) so id give them a shot to see if you can rehome him ...if not , try craigslist.org and make sure he goes to a great home from there

if you are determined to keep him, theres not much more to go with him other thank maybe some cory cats or similar size bottom feeders, as he will need all that space for himself..and at full grown capacity, he could break the tank sides from being startled or swimming into the glass...they are huge gentle giants...

I agree with Shawnie, contact your LFS and see if they will re-home him for free.
