question about the heater

I have a Neptune 200 (long green heater) in my aquarium. I want to turn the heat up just a little for the parrot fish who is going to lay eggs. The heater doesn't have any markings on it to know what way to turn the heater up or down. Right now the thermometer is reading between 76 and 78 degrees, but I would like it to be around 80 or 82 (so I've read). If any one is familiar with the type of heater I'm talking about, would you know what way to turn it so the temp goes up a little bit?

Thanks for the help.

all my heaters turn right to rise left to lower...but you can test yours by turning it one way to either turn the light on for up or off for lower on the themometer

Be careful when adjusting heater temperature without an external thermostat. I suggest you stay close to the tank, monitoring its temperature for at least one hour after you change its previous adjustments.

The reason I mention this is based on my trials with an over-sized heater (250W for 10gal) I was working on to raise temp in one of my hospital tanks. After a small turn of the bolt, the temperature reached 38C (100F)!. Fortunately, I had no fish in the tank at the moment.

Hello PM. If you'll look closely at the heater you can actually see the heat coming from it when it's on. You may have to get at just the right angle to see it but you actually can. I just noticed it in my 29g prefilter tank. It's like it makes little waves coming right off the heater. Maybe that will help you some. Try and see.
