| one side of the tank I have a 35 gal tank and I am wondering why my fish spend most of their time in 1 half of it. They swim around once in a while but mostly they are in one section. The other left side is empty . I have 2 filters, one on each side and on the empty side there is a aerating rice mill that blows bubbles. Do you think they dont like it Is it normal for them to stay on one side instead of swimming all over
Thanks much |

| it depends on what type of fish ..if its the ones in your aquarium info, no they should be all over the tank...maybe turn the bubbles down a bit or move them to the middle to see if it makes a difference? |

The fry hide in the plants in the middle so I really dont want to put it there.
Thanks |

| Just judging by your tank pic it looks like there are more plants on one side and the other side is much more open. |

| Actually the plants are more in the middle, the other side is almost as open as the right side. The fry use the plants in the middle to hide in............ |

| hmm... they should be out and about swimming everywhere... The danios should anyway... is it possible that your filter outflow is too strong? |

| The strongest filter is on the side they are always on. Do you know how to turn down the aerating bubbles? Maybe they dont like them. I am going to unplug it and see what happens... |

| hmm... what type of pump is it? sometimes pumps come with a specific gallonage. That might be it...
Oh btw, my fish spend most of the time on 2/3 of the side of the tank.
just wondering ( off topic) what are your tank's dimensions? |

| The heater blend in with the background and is between the center and the right end of the tank. I see the gray top on it. |

| Hello redlessi,
To limit the amount of air flow to the bubble maker, you need to get an air adjuster. It's a little piece you put on the air tube between the air pump and the decoration that makes the bubbles. It has a knob that you can turn to adjust the air flow. Here is a link to an example. Hope this helps (I love them!) http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...2256&lmdn=Fish

| I'd take the water temp on one side of the tank and then the other and see if there is a difference. |

| Redlessi,
They sell the air requlation valves individuly at Petco. They are only a dollor or two. They keep them (at least at my local Petco) over by the air stones and tubing.
Once you get one, just cut your airline and put one end into the top of the valve and the other end in the bottom of the valve. You can then turn the knob to adjust airflow between fully open to fully closed. |

| Hi Petitetank Welcome to Fishlore
I have guppies, platies, cories, ghost shrimp and 1 snail, oh I almost forgot about my danio. P.S. if you click on the aquarium info it will tell you all about the tank. |

| I've had your first two and yeah they do swim around a lot. The only thing that I can think of that's dettering them from going to one side of the tank is too much current but you already negated that by stating that they prefer the side that has the stronger filter. I'm just curious why you have two filters running because platies and guppies are not big waste producers, from my experience anyway, plus you have a 35 which is a mansion for them. Have you tried turning off your other filter? |

I have 2 filters, a cascade 200 and aqua clear 150, they keep my water very clear and I always have extra media if I need it for an emergency. I have filter sponge on them due to having fry in the tank. As far as a mansion, not so sure as I have 3 adult female guppies, 3 dwarf sunset platies, 5 cories, 5 ghost shrimp, 1 snail, 1 danio and about 5 guppy fry with more fry to come.
I think it might be the bubbles, I am going to buy the air check valve suggested and see what happens. I did move the heater and it worked a little.
Thanks again |
